Oh Mercy was hailed as a comeback, not just because it had songs noticeably more meaningful than anything Bob Dylan had recently released, but because Daniel Lanois' production gave it cohesion. There was cohesion on Empire Burlesque, of course, but that cohesion was a little too slick, a little too commercial, whereas this record was filled with atmospheric, hazy production -- a sound as arty.

Jul 09,  · I have Deeds of Mercy and after revisiting Oh Mercy the other day, I played it as well. The sound quality alone is disappointing - an off-speed cassette dub of a dub (of probably another dub, etc.) - but thanks to Tell Tale Signs and other various releases, I didn't find anything worth keeping that hasn't been released officially.

Where Teardrops Fall Lyrics. 3. The songs on “Oh Mercy” are written by Bob Dylan mostly in a painting room that he arranged in his house in Malibu. After a row of disappointing albums.

Editors’ Notes This album benefited greatly from producer Daniel Lanois’ swamped-up and cinematic New Orleans groove. From the stuttering opening chords of “Political World” to the noirish slow-burn “Man in the Long Black Coat,” it’s also obvious that Bob Dylan’s updated sound dovetailed with fresh songwriting inspiration.
